‘…provides a comprehensive, first hand overview of the control mechanisms.' (Motor Industry Magazine, February 2010).
From the Back Cover
A brief retrospective of the early years of the history of the automobile is followed bya description of the principles behind the operation, management and control of a gasoline (spark-ignition) engine. Descriptions of the cylinder-charge control, fuel-injection, ignition, and catalytic emission-control systems provide a comprehensive overview of the control mechanisms which are essential to the operation of a modern gasoline engine. The texts dealing with the Motronic engine-management system illustrate how this is put into practice. Particular emphasis is placed here on the diagnostic functions, which, on account of the ever more stringent requirements of emission-control legislation, make up an increasing proportion of the Motronic system.

Very informative and well written
By Vipul Singh
This is a great book with a lot of information about not just the electronics of engine management, but also about the combustion process, emissions control etc. The best part is that the information is not specific to a particular engine management system - the book deals with conceptual problems and how engine management systems solve those.
A single reading of the book provided more knowledge than probably a whole year of net-surfing did! Highly recommended for those who need their fundamentals thoroughly clear.

be wary of the introduction
By W Boudville
Just do not take the introduction at face value. It describes the history of the company. It says that when Robert Bosch died in 1942, the "world mourned" [or words to that effect]. Rubbish! For world, substitute "Nazi Germany". The man and his company were steadfast supporters of the Nazis. Given his technological ability and more generally that of his eponymous company, that was bad news for everyone else in the world.
The rest of the book moves on safer ground, discussing engineering achievements after the war. Those sections are fine, and are indeed well written and should be readily understandable to a person with an engineering background.
