This is such a fun book to read. There are more twists and turns than a path to a Leprechauns home! I have to read it again since I read it so fast that I am sure I missed some interesting points.

I usually don't read fantasy story, but this book immediately hooks me from the start. I can't stop reading it. I love this book because it teaches you about the true meaning of inner beauty and appearance is not everything. The other thing is that people are unexpected. Don't judge the book by its cover.
I would rate this book for 5.5 out of 5!!!
You will love the adventure, the thrill and the world of fantasy.

Regarding the translation...

I grew up reading this book (the English version) and have always loved the story. When we moved to Spain 2 years ago, I was reminded of "Ferdinand" and bought it for our family library.

Before this purchase (of the translated book), I read a few unfavorable reviews regarding the translation. This made me nervous about buying the book because I intend to give it as an "end of the school year" gift to my son's Spanish teacher, a native Spanish speaker. (Since it is an American book, she had never heard of it before. My son took it to school one day and she really enjoyed the English version.) So, I decided to gamble and bought a copy of the Spanish translation for her. When it arrived, I had my own Spanish teacher proof-read it.

Here is my teacher's take... This book is written in Castilian Spanish (so it may not jive with Spanish spoken in the U.S.). Castilian Spanish is HIGHLY appropriate for this book since it is set in Madrid and the Castilian dialect is the one used in Madrid and the area surrounding it. My teacher pointed out a few words which are a bit antiquated (not commonly used in modern Castilian). While it is not perfect, she considered the translation to be accurate (on the whole). The translation was done back in 1962 and there are bound to be a some language changes in 50 years.

The other reviews had me worried, but now I feel confident in giving this book to my son's teacher. If you are concerned about a perfect translation, maybe this isn't the book for you. I think that "Ferdinando" is a completely enjoyable story and the illustrations are lovely. To me, that is more important than a perfect translation.

The translation of this book is one of the worst ones I have ever seen. The text lacks accents, is full of major gramatical errors and includes literally translated sentences that have no meaning in Spanish. The publication of this translation is insulting to my language and my community.

I am normal, I am not dummy !

I am sure that you are a not a dummy student but , unfortunately, normal people can have a very hard time with this exam. So, if you are a normal person, this is a great book to start your preparation. There are other good books, like "Cracking the Toefl CBT", "Arco preparation Kit for the Toefl" or "Longman Preparation Course for the Toefl Test", but if you don't have time, this book aims you to deal efficiently with this crisis, saving your time and getting you out as quickly as possible.

Great handling of delicate subject matter

Karyn Mitchell had been date-raped and for the past several years she'd been struggling to put her life back together. Finally she convinces herself that local DJ, Christopher Faulkner, is the man who can solve her problems. After all, he offers sex advice nightly on the radio. Maybe if he'd just put a little of his advice into practice with her, all her problems would be solved. When she finally gets him to agree, it's with the understanding their affair will be short and sweet with no emotional involvement. Only that's easier said than done when Karyn finds herself falling for Dr. Desire. Chris has emotional baggage of his own which comes to a climax when he fails to keep the one promise he made to Karyn -- to keep her safe. I enjoyed this debut novel from Kira Sinclair and look forward to future books from her.

She tackles a very difficult subject - date-rape - in a manner that few could, turning it into the triumphant story of a woman finally putting her past behind her and learning to love and trust again. The story is not only believable, but well-written. I look forward to more from this author.

Mishaps and hilarity ensue, and Stroppy is forced to go deep into the heart of Schnauzer territory to rescue his poet friend.
Stroppy is Bell's triumphant return to comics; it's also his first full-length graphic novella, one that thrums with jokes, hashtags, and made-up song lyrics. Densely detailed not-so-secret underground societies, little robots, and heavyweight humdingers leap off the page in full color. About the Author

Marc Bell was born in London, Ontario, and has befuddled and bemused his readers for almost twenty years. He is the author of Hot Potatoe, Pure Pajamas, and Shrimpy and Paul and Friends. His comics have appeared in many Canadian weeklies, Vice, and L.A. Weekly. He is a twin.

Marc isn't just great art he has the narrative chops

If Will Elder and Geof Darrow gave birth to a next generation underground artist with a fine art sensibility, then you might begin to describe the genius of Marc Bell. Primed by the stunning art of Hot Potatoes and prepped by Pure Pajamas, I still wasn't convinced that Marc could pull off a full length narrative. I was so wrong. At first I was a little concerned about the slightly stripped down art. I had grown used to the wonderfully complex art and type mix that made him so engaging, but once I started reading, I became a true believer. It's amazing consistency and great reading flow made for an unstoppable and thoroughly great experience. His sense of the real world mixed with surreal elements is as unique as reading Jim Woodring. I'm now re-reading Pure Pajamas and looking for my copy of Shrimpy and Paul just so I can keep capturing the feeling.

Waste of trees, waste of time, waste of money

I'm game for absurd and nonsensical, but not for boring. This is extremely boring. No story, no characters, no nothing. The weak drawings become totally tiresome after a few pages. This is a pathetic attempt at coolness which I didn't even finish. If you want to buy a book that you'll never read again, go ahead.
