Anglican Theology (Doing Theology), by Mark Chapman

This book seeks to explain the ways in which Anglicans have sought to practise theology in their various contexts. It is a clear, insightful, and reliable guide which avoids technical jargon and roots its discussions in concrete examples. The book is primarily a work of historical theology, which engages deeply with key texts and writers from across the tradition (e.g. Cranmer, Jewel, Hooker, Taylor, Butler, Simeon, Pusey, Huntington, Temple, Ramsey, and many others). As well as being suitable for seminary courses, it will be of particular interest to study groups in parishes and churches, as well as to individuals who seek to gain a deeper insight into the traditions of Anglicanism. While it adopts a broad and unpartisan approach, it will also be provocative and lively.

Helpful intro to Anglican theology
By Amazon Customer
This was a great introduction to the concepts and history of Anglican theology. Words that kept leaping out at me were "authority" and "contested". The author maps out the issues the English church dealt with regarding tradition, scripture, and determining what sort of theology and practice were deemed authoritative. The issue of scriptural authority is one that every tradition wrestles with, especially in the Reformed and Protestant traditions. The author also points out many times through the book that everything the Anglican tradition has done has been contested in one way or another as it worked to walk a middle path between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. Everything is contested and nuanced, so don't approach a book like this thinking you'll walk away with any black-and-white answers. That just isn't how Anglicans do things.

Never underestimate the Poms
By Adam Fforde
Superb exposition deep in the tolerant current of Anglicanism. Deeply suggestive - the idea that Anglicanism's most powerful creative act was to institutionalise tolerance of difference. Prompts thought about the relation between secular and spiritual when the Divine is thought manifest in a theologically sceptical religious and political community.

Excellent Study

I just completed 2 years of study for the Diaconate. I wanted to persue further study of Anglican theology and history. This book by Chapman is doing a great job of that for me. Buy it.
